The world football governing body, FIFA, has officially certified Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial’s artificial turf under its prestigious “FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf” standard. This certification follows the successful installation of the state-of-the-art Duofilament Mono football turf by Nurteks Hali (link unavailable) Tic. A.S, a globally renowned company specializing in artificial sports surfaces.
Businessman Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, made the announcement on Monday, October 7, marking the stadium’s readiness to host high-calibre football matches. The turf was approved by FIFA on Friday, October 4.
After extensive testing and inspection, FIFA awarded Hamz Stadium turf a clean bill of health, with the certification valid from October 4, 2024, to October 3, 2027. A certificate signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the turf’s compliance with the “FIFA QUALITY PROGRAMME FOR FOOTBALL TURF – FIFA QUALITY” standard.
“This installation has been tested and certified to the ‘FIFA QUALITY PROGRAMME FOR FOOTBALL TURF – FIFA QUALITY’ standard,” the certificate reads.
The achievement is a significant boost to Hamz Stadium Nakivubo and Uganda’s standing in the global football arena. FIFA’s endorsement ensures the facility meets international standards, enhancing its prospects as a venue for domestic and international events.
The certified turf at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Memorial is set to host various football matches, providing opportunities for local talent to play on FIFA-approved grounds and attracting international teams to Kampala.
At least three Uganda Premier League clubs have already applied to use the stadium as their home ground in the 2024/25 UPL season. The FIFA certification comes at an opportune time, with the league just four match days underway.
With this new certification, football fans can expect improved playing conditions for players, ensuring high-quality matches in the years to come.
