The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has made substantial progress in the upgrade and expansion of Entebbe International Airport, with phase one nearing completion at 92%.
According to UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye, the airport has seen a significant increase in traffic volume, with more passengers in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
In July 2024, the airport recorded 182,494 international passengers, with cargo traffic increasing by 18.9% in exports and 46.2% in imports compared to the same period in 2023.
Aircraft movements increased by 4.4%, with 15,223 movements from January to June 2024, while overflights grew by 10.3% to 12,359 in the same period.
A new business class facility is under construction and expected to be completed by early next year, while the new passenger terminal building stands at 65% completion.
UCAA aims to accommodate 3.5 million passengers by 2023 and 5 million by 2029, with ongoing efforts to improve airport facilities and services.
