BIG BOOST: The newly launched CN Sugar factory in Namayingo district is expected to benefit over 2000 people directly and indirectly.
The factory, which was launched by Vice President Maj. Gen. Jessica Alupo, has brought excitement to the locals in the Busoga Subregion.
Although the factory is still under construction, with only 50% complete, it has already employed over 600 people as potters, transporters, gardeners, builders, and loaders, among others.
The factory’s manager, Kakungulu Rashid, expressed optimism that the factory will greatly benefit the locals, the entire Busoga Subregion, and Uganda at large.
Namayingo District Chairperson, Ronald Sanya, highlighted the positive impact the factory will have on the area. “The factory will employ our youth, reducing unemployment and criminality. Our youth have been depending on fishing, but the Army restricted them, leading to idleness and gambling, which threatens district security,” Sanya said.
He added that the factory will also boost district revenue collections, which have been affected by the suspension of boat parking and fishing permits.
The factory’s establishment is expected to triple the district’s revenue, from Shs100m to Shs200m to Shs700m.
Vice President Maj. Gen. Jessica Alupo, through Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Isanga Rukia Nakadama, pledged total support to the investors, stating that the government will continue to support investors bringing billions of money into Uganda.
CN Sugar factory is the first factory to be constructed in Namayingo district, in the Eastern part of Uganda.”
