Kampala, Uganda: On Friday, Makerere University School of Public Health presented Dr. Geofrey Musinguzi a Lecturer in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health (DCEH) who shared his personal experiences with rectal cancer and the tough journey to recovery, highlighting the importance of hope, resilience, and support in navigating the challenges of the disease.
He detailed his journey, from diagnosis to treatment, and emphasized the significance of staging and treatment options in cancer care.
Dr. Musinguzi’s story serves as an inspiration to others facing similar medical challenges, highlighting the power of hope, medical expertise, and support.

Dr. Geofrey Musinguzi is an educated and accomplished professional in his field of Public who has bravely faced and overcome the challenges of rectal cancer.
He is now a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with rectal cancer and undergone treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy, despite the physical and emotional challenges he faced during his treatment, Dr. Musinguzi has shown remarkable resilience and determination.
He has willingly shares his personal story in the book entitled “MY STORY, MY JOURNEY WITH RECTAL CANCER FROM DIAGNOSIS TO RECOVERY” that has been launched today. The book includes his experiences and lessons learned, aimed to inspire and support others facing similar challenges.
Dr. Musinguzi values the importance of staging and treatment options in cancer care, highlighting his commitment to educating others about the disease. He is a testament to the power of hope, medical expertise, and support in overcoming cancer, and his story serves as an inspiration to others.
His wife, Catherine Musinguzi, shared her emotional journey of caring for her husband during his cancer treatment. She described the challenges they faced, including navigating the healthcare system, managing his medication, and dealing with the emotional toll of the disease.
She emphasized the importance of advocacy, care, and companionship in navigating cancer treatment.
Prof. Hilde Bastiaens from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, discussed the importance of colorectal cancer awareness and prevention. She highlighted the need for early detection and screening, noting that occult blood tests are not 100% safe.
She encouraged individuals to pay attention to signs such as blood or mucus in stool, changes in bowel movements, abdominal pain, and unexplained weight loss.
In her remarks, Prof. Rhoda Wanyenze, Dean of Makerere University School of Public Health, praised Dr. Musinguzi’s courage in sharing his life story amidst a cancer diagnosis.
She emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and lessons with others, highlighting the impact of mentorship and support on one’s life. She heaped praises to Dr. Musinguzi’s wife, Mrs. Catherine Musinguzi for being by her husband in every step of his life fight.
Dr. Musinguzi’s spiritual father, Darryl Woodson, and Senior Pastor of Victory Christian Church, (VCC), Ntinda, celebrated his miraculous recovery from cancer and recognized his unwavering faith, saying ‘God helped him through every interval.’
