In the new development, Bukomansimbi District top leadership slot is heating up day in and out as parties continue to front candidates to contest in the forthcoming elections.
The Position has so far attracted two candidates who have declared their intentions to run in the 2026 general elections to replace the incumbent Nyenje Kayiira who is likely not to stand again for the same position.
Recently, Nyenje Kayiira announced his intentions to contest the Bukomansimbi North Constituency Parliamentary position, leaving a vacuum in the top district leadership position. (LC5).
Before Kayiira’s pronouncement, Cathy Kayemba a renowned businesswoman and member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) joined the Local Council five race citing a number of loopholes in service delivery in her home district.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has now declared its intentions to front Herman Lubega Sserwanja the former National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson in Bukomansimbi to battle with Cathy Kayemba as the top contenders.
Herman Lubega, was among the 420 youths who cited a number of reasons including being abandoned by their party, the National Unity Platform and crossed to the NRM in 2022 citing a number of reasons for their decision to dump NUP while at Kisojjo playground in Bukomansimbi district.

They were received by a number of NRM big shots including the former Defense Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja and Bashir Ssemakula, the NRM flag bearer for Bukomansimbi South Constituency in 2021.
Herman Lubega is a graduate with a bachelors in mass communication from Kampala international University, born at Bigasa in Bukomansimbi District. He also went through St. Johns Primary school, Mbulire SSS and Bukalasa Seminary. He has as well held a number of positions in different levels majorly in the Catholic Church and the youth league.
Cathy Kayemba as well, is a daughter to the Late Ms. Sarah Nabukeera of Kabigi Bukomansimbi and Dr. Junju Luwaga of Samalia Kako, Masaka. She went to Light Junior School Kitoma Bukomansimbi and Masaka Baptist School Kijjabwemi for Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), St Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda one of the best high schools in Masaka sub region for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), Kako SSS for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and Makerere University for a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality.
Since its inception in 2010, Bukomansimbi has been a battleground for political ideologies, with the Democratic Party (DP) initially dominating the scene, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the National Unity Platform (NUP) which took over most of the positions in 2021.
Whoever wins the race between Herman Lubega and Cathy Kayemba will be the 3rd elected District chairperson for Bukomansimbi after JEEMA’s Hajji Muhammad Kateregga and the incumbent Nyenje Kayiira who is vying for another political position.
The Bukomansimbi District LC5 position in 2021 attracted 7 candidates. Nyenje Fred Kayiira (NUP) won the race with 17,004 votes, Bulegeya Julius (NRM) with 10,805 votes, Lukoda Hassan Ssewaya (independent) with 2,347 votes, Mbaziira Julius (independent) with 443 votes, Kimbugwe Huzairu (FDC) with 332 votes, Mutebi Andrew (independent) with 204 votes and Yiga Holix Muwonge (DP) with 00 votes.
