Uganda’s leading National Unity Platform (NUP) opposition party has written to the ministry of Defence requesting permission to mark four years since the unveiling of the National Unity Platform to the people of Uganda On 22nd July 2024 .
The party secretary Genereal Lewis Rubongoya in the letter he addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs noted that, the journey so far has been marked by so many challenges, trials and tribulations.
”However, we have also reached various milestones in the pursuit of our cardinal objective of ushering in a New Uganda. As we look to the future, we wrote to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs this week, requesting to hold our commemorative event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds – given its historical significance as well as the number of people expected. As these are public grounds which are regularly used for NRM activities, music concerts and other events, we hope we shall also have an opportunity to hold this important event at the grounds”.He said.
The defence ministry is yet to respond on the request from NUP Leadership.
This comes at a time when police and NUP leadership tresolve on key issues for the party to resume its nationwide consultative meetings. These include:
To immediately stop Carrying people on motor vehicle rooftops, Carrying excess passengers in vehicles,
Over speeding as this is an offense.
Others are, not allowing moving in a convoy of many motor vehicles and motorcycles from Kampala to upcountry locations,
desist from Harassing or provoking security personnel while on their lawful duties ,Regulating traffic is the mandate of the traffic police, and all road users should comply with traffic regulations. Persons not mandated to regulate traffic must stop and the NUP leadership was urged to take responsibility and prevail over the conduct of their members.
