Residents of Lwemiyaga, Ssembabule District, have demanded for an urgent meeting with both the Speaker of Parliament Anitah Among and the President, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to among other things share pain of how their 23 year legislator keeps harassing them, taking their land through evictions.
The residents also accused Ssekikubo of shooting people within the area if they attempted to stand in the way of Ssekikubo’s alleged land fraudulent deals.
The residents, on Friday morning, converged at Parliament of Uganda, pleading to meet the Speaker of Parliament to intervene in the matter.
“Ssekikubo has for the past 23 years, been harassing us. We now want the Speaker to intervene to ensure that we are saved. We also want the President to end the human rights violations orchestrated by the MP,” says Richard Kamukama one of the residents.
The residents have also petitioned the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Muhoozi, the Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba to immediately investigate and bring to justice the Lwemiyaga County MP for such violations.
Muyiga Benon, another resident from Lwemiyaga also accused Ssekikubo of taking away all the land that they used to graze their animals and now are bound to lose all cattle due to lack of grazing areas.
Ssembabule is predominantly a cattle keeping area situated in the cattle corridor. It is one of the largest Districts in Buganda region.
Muyiga says, many people and leaders have all been getting to Ssembabule, including former IGP Kale Kayihura and have all met the President but have not been saved from the MP.
They now want Parliament to force Ssekikubo to account and not only face justice, but also return all the land he allegedly stole from the people.
“We want the President to help us take Ssekikubo away from us. Many people have been buried because of Ssekikubo’s indiscipline. We have alot of pain. He comes as a helper and later steals from all of them. He took our 70 acres,” says Namawejje Irene.
The crying Namawejje said, the whole of Ssembabule is now struggling with several murder cases orchestrated by Ssekikubo, who they said the whole District Security Committee backs him.
“He burnt our houses, cut down our cow, and also imprisoned my son (Dan Nawulira) and took over his land. We now live in the bushes just because of him,” says Nahabwe Grace, the area representative for Ntuusi and Bulongo Sub counties at the District Council.
Ssekikubo has for the past 23 years, been the MP representing Lwemiyaga in the August House. He is remembered to have had a bitter fight with former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kahamba Kuteesa over NRM Primaries.
Recently, the MP led a group of legislators to collect signatures, file a censure motion against four Parliamentary Commissioners including the former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga for receiving a Ugx 1.7 billion service award.
The residents now say, it is immoral for Ssekikubo whom they termed as a land grabber and an attempted murderer to engage in leading a team to oust other members of Parliament.
By the time of filing this story, Lwemiyaga MP Theodero Ssekikubo had not picked our calls to respond to the allegations.
