High Court Judge Magarate Mutonyi convicted and sentenced Magombe, emphasizing that Ugandan law forbids human sacrifice and seeks to deter the use of human body parts in traditional medicine or any other practices. She pointed out that such behavior could lead to crimes where individuals might be murdered for their skulls, or the peace of the deceased could be disturbed by exhuming bodies to obtain skulls or other human bones.
John Magombe, a witch doctor, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison by the High Court in Kampala for possessing human body parts, including three human skulls. Magombe confessed to the charge, stating that he had acquired the skulls from other witch doctors.
Judge Mutonyi stressed the importance of public awareness about the prohibition of human sacrifice in Uganda, and that the punishment should serve as a deterrent against the use of human body parts in traditional medicine or any other practices.
In her sentencing, Judge Mutonyi advised Magombe to reconsider his actions and turn to Christianity. She noted that traditional medicine has been practiced in the Bible without the use of human body parts.
She also called on the public to stay alert and report any witch doctors who intimidate and frighten them with human body parts.
Magombe was arrested on February 3, 2023, at Kibira B village in Kazinga, Masaja, with human remains, three skulls, and a bottle of suspected human or animal blood in his shrine. The police are currently investigating the case.
