All is not well in Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) .The latest spat started when Gashumba, PLU’s Deputy Chairman posted on his X handle accusing Security Agencies of sleeping on job and yet insecurity was spiraling out of control in Kampala City.
In that post, Gashumba tagged General Muhoozi among other Security Chiefs saying if the mighty UPDF that fought Al Shabaab in Somalia why can’t it fight these unarmed thugs.
He also advised Security Chiefs to resign if these small boys can defeat them to handle.
Unimpressed, Hon. Michael Mawanda Member Of Parliament for Igara East Bushenyi District, also chairperson of PLU Disciplinary Committee wrote to Gashumba to appear before PLU’s Disciplinary committee arguing that the latter’s outburst in the Media had brought disrepute to PLU’s Chairman, General Muhoozi.
Before the dust could settle down, Gashumba went into a diatribe which he shared in the social media on Tuesday 28th May lambasting Mawanda for being a Cooperatives’ Union money thief who should have already recorded statements at CID.
“Good evening PLU mobilizers and fellow Ugandans. While I had hoped that this matter would be handled and resolved internally, those who summoned me decided to recklessly leak their letter, as a result, I have received countless phone calls arising from Hon Mawanda’s malicious and ill thought summons to me. The following is my response,” Gashumba’s message on X read on the evening of 28th May.
“By the way, tell us, when will you appear before CID for corruption and theft of Cooperatives money meant for compensation of poor people to the tune of Shs164billion.
Gashumba also attacked Mawanda for shielding a Minister in Museveni’s Cabinet who allegedly stole rice and meat at an event where General Muhoozi visited Masaka.
“Since you are busy summoning me, when are you summoning your friend (a Minister) who embarrassed PLU Mobilizers when he stole rice and meat,” Gashumba asks.
This media confrontation may however have come to an end after the intervention of Dr. Balaam Baruhagara Ateenyi, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs and Deputy Chairman, PLU.
In a meeting later in the evening of Tuesday, 28th May, 2024, Balaam convinced Gashumba to ceasefire saying he was going to approach Mawanda as well so that the issue is sorted out amicably.
Balaam quoted Abraham Lincoln saying, “The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” Let’s promote peace over pet issues.”
He also says that PLU should not tolerate indiscipline, disrespect arguing that PLU is one family.
Meanwhile, Gashumba promised not to respond to media attacks again saying he did not start it.
“Chairman called me for a meeting on Wednesday, (29th May) but before the day could end, social media was full of a letter written to me inviting me for a disciplinary meeting. That was disrespect, it is the reason I fired back on Social Media,” Gashumba said.
