“This conviction marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to eradicate human sacrifice and child trafficking in Uganda,” said Jacquelyn Okui, Public Relations Officer for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The gruesome case involved the kidnapping and murder of a young boy, whose remains were found buried in a sugarcane plantation. Justice Godfrey Namundi of the Mbale High Court presided over the case.
Key Witness and Plea Bargain
Isiko Jamada, initially arrested alongside his uncle, struck a plea bargain with prosecutors in exchange for a lighter sentence. His testimony provided crucial evidence that secured the conviction of Isiko Ibrahim.
“Following his conviction, Isiko Jamada chose to testify as a prosecution witness, providing crucial evidence that contributed to the conviction of Isiko Ibrahim,” Okui stated.
Collaboration between authorities and NGOs
The Ugandan Police Force, with the support of Kyampisi Childcare Ministries, investigated the case. Kyampisi Childcare Ministries is also caring for a survivor who served as a key witness.
Prosecution Efforts
Mr. Aliwaali Kizito, Chief State Attorney in the Office of the DPP, represented the prosecution.
This conviction is seen as a victory in the fight against human sacrifice and child trafficking in Uganda.
