In Elgon Region’s District of Mbale, Census process has today, Friday, 17th May, 2024 been suspended in Bufumbo village, Bufukhula parish, Nyondo Sub County after yet to be known thugs stole enumeration gadgets from the village Enumerator.
The incident took place on Thursday night, 16th May, 2024 when the thugs sprayed the Enumerator’s house with Chloroform before breaking into the house when Sharon Mutuma was dead asleep.
According to Mbale Resident district commissioner, Asumin Nasike, the suspected thug took the government iPad which the enumerator has been using to conduct the counting exercise and other items like phones, keys among other household items.
The RDC also says that the enumerator woke up late in the morning today, 17th May, 2024 and discovered the house open with items missing that is when she alerted the authorities and reported the matter to Nabumali Police Station.
Nasike also says that her office with the help of police are doing what it takes to recover the government gadget and arrest these suspected thugs who were behind this theft.
She says that they have got information from the victim that unknown people are calling her demanding money as ransom before bringing back her gadget and other stolen items.
She says they have got the phone number they were using to call Sharon and security is now using it to track them down.
By press time, getting a comment from Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson was futile after saying he has not yet been briefed.
