Kabarnet Principal Magistrate Hon. Caroline Ateya sentenced a man to 5 years imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh 3,000,000 for dealing in wildlife species categorized as endangered. The man, Nicodemus Langat Kipgorola was found guilty of the offence of dealing in a wildlife species in particular a live Pangolin measuring 60 centimetres long without a permit or any other lawful exemption, contrary to Section 92(3) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013. Prosecution though Claire Kosgei and Sydney Koech proved the case against the accused person through exhibits and testimonies from four prosecution witnesses. The court noted that all the testimonies corroborated and indeed confirmed that the accused person was in possession of the animal.
