This Monday, police of Arua district have taken to court two people who were arrested by for bribing OC CID with two million (2,000,000) shillings inorder to kill a murder case.
This arrest was made on Sunday 14th April 2024 at around 4:30 pm in the evening at Arua district Central Police Station, in Vurra Subcounty.
The arrested suspects are Ajikia Annet Female Adult aged 28 years old Lugbara by tribe a peasant, a wife to the murder suspect one Onzima Innocent and Nyakuta Brian Male adult aged 22 years old Lugbara by tribe a bodaboda rider, all residents of Nyio Village, Nyio parish, Vurra subcounty in Arua District.
According to West Nile police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia, a man identified as Arijole Alido was on 17th December 2023 allegedly murdered by his brother called Onzima Innocent and other clan members, who also demolished houses and burnt properties of the deceased.
After killing Arijole, his body was dumped inside his pit latrine.
Police recorded that, the suspects allegedly accused tyw deceased of being rich as a result of illuminati.
After committing these offences, all the suspects allegedly escaped to hide in Democratic Republic of Congo.
A murder case was registered under Arua Vurra district CPS CRB 239/2023, and malicious damage and Arson were registered on SD reference 13th December 2023.
When the suspects received information that the former OC CID, Detective ASP Maloba Moses was transfered, and that a new OC CID, Detective ASP Kalinaki Japhar was brought, they decided to come back to their homes from DR Congo.
But when the new OC CID received information about this case file and the suspects being back home from DR Congo, he mobilised personnel to go and arrest the murder suspects, which arrest was effected on Friday last week at around 4:00 pm.
Onzima Innocent, a prime suspect, who allegedly commanded the clan members to kill the deceased, was arrested and detained at Arua Vurra district Central Police Station, Odumi.
Angucia said, the two suspects of bribery came to the station and entered and met the current OC CID Arua district, and handed over two million uganda shillings (2,000,000/=) to him such that he kills the murder case against their relative Onzima Innocent and set him free.
This act annoyed the OC CID Detective ASP Kalinaki Japher, who ordered for immediate arrest and detention of the two suspects.
A case of Bribing a police officer on duty was registered under SD reference 16/14/04/2024. Statements were obtained from the two suspects, as well as from witnesses.
The Two million ugandan shillings (2,000,000/=) was recovered and Exhibited.
Their casefile was forwarded to Resident State Attorney which was quickly sanctioned for court to takeover the case.
The two who risked to bribe the OC were whisked to Arua magistrates court in Monday afternoon to answer to the offence of Bribing a police officer.
Meanwhile, the casefile of murder was also sanctioned and the suspect, one Onzima Innocent was also taken to Arua court to answer to the charge of Murder.
To that effect, police has sounded a warning to the general public not to temper with bribing police officers with aims of killing ir winning a case.
“This arrest of the two who bribed police with money to kill a murder case should serve as a lesson to the general public that Uganda Police Force is a professional institution that does not encourage corruption, and so those who think of inducing police officers through corrupt practices like bribery should desist from the vice, as they can be arrested and prosecuted according to the law” says Josphine Angucia, the police PRO for West Nile sub region.
