PRESS STATEMENT ON A CRASH FATAL ACCIDENT VIDE TAR 33/2024 OF NWOYA CPS
The Nwoya District traffic police have registered a crash fatal accident vide TAR 33/2024 that took place on 12/04/2024 around Karuma check point along Gulu-Kampala high way in Nwoya District involving Motor vehicle Reg. No. SSD 770CK, Toyota Hiace silver in colour and another Motor vehicle Reg. No. UBG 085C Isuzu Bus belonging to Nilestar bus company yellow in colour.
The deceased persons have been identified as; Aisha Namatovu and two yet to be identified bodies. The injured persons have been identified as; Ramathan Shaban and another unidentified person who was rushed to unknown health facility.Brief facts indicate that, the motor vehicle reg. No. SSD 770CK Toyota Hiace was coming from Kampala direction facing Gulu and heading to Juba, as it approached half a kilometer to Karuma checkpoint, it over took another vehicle and met with a Nile star bus that was from the opposite direction heading to Kampala and ended up smashing the passengers side of T/hiannce killing and injuring some of its passengers on board. The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving by the driver of motor vehicle reg. No. SSD 770CK Toyota Hiace
The traffic police visited the scene and documented, bodies taken to Anaka hospital for postmortem while the injured have been rushed to RG Health facility within Karuma town council. No arrested has yet been made since both drivers are still on the run. More inquiries ongoing.
