Kemigisha Sharon had been abducted for nine days.
The NUP Women councillor in Wandegeya Parish, Kawempe Division in Kampala was dumped by her alleged captors in an unknown place last night, where a kind-hearted boda-boda rider picked her up and delivered her at the NUP office towards midnight.
According to the party secretary general Davis Rubongoya, Kemigisha says that all this time, she was being kept in solidarity confinement, but could hear other people crying out of torture in adjacent rooms.
Apparently, they were interrogating her about her numerous interviews in which she’s been very critical of the regime. He added.
In tears, she narrated to her people how those thugs at some point forced her to undress and took her pictures while mocking her. Thankfully her spirit is not broken! It falls on us as a people to collectively put an end to these crimes against humanity.
By the time Kemigisha went missing, she was organising a women’s day activity to empower women in the ghetto under her foundation Kemi Care on 20th March 2024 at Katanga playground in Kampala.
Sharon Kemigisha, the Woman Councillor for Wandegeya who was allegedly kidnapped on February 23, 2024 and the National Unity Platform (NUP) party activists gave the Uganda Police and sister security agencies 48 hours to produce her.
According to Kemigisha’s husband, Haruna Kasozi, he last talked to Kemigisha on February 23, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., when she was in Kyengera. He says that after that, her phone went off, and she was never heard of again.
“I went to the Kyengera police post and reported the case, then proceeded to the Mulago accident ward, and she wasn’t there. I then proceeded to the Mulago mortuary, and she wasn’t among those on the list, and we even checked all the dead bodies, and she wasn’t among them,“ Kasozi said.
However, police are yet to release any statement about the same.
