A university student on Wednesday killed himself at Raila village in Langata constituency after losing his school fee to a betting racket.
Brian Ongwae, 22, a student at Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), had placed a bet of Ksh. 15,000, which was supposed to cover his fees, in the hopes of winning more money, but the arrangement fell through.
Residents say that following the wager on Tuesday evening, in which he lost his money, the victim remained upset throughout the day and ended up locking himself inside his house, where he could be heard speaking to an unknown person.
Curious neighbors rushed to his rented house in the vicinity and were astonished to find his body dangling from the roof.
According to Muguimoini area head George Mukuria, police officers arrived Wednesday evening and assessed the property before transporting the deceased to the City Mortuary for an autopsy.
The dead wrote a note for his mother, encouraging her to be strong.
According to the administrator, the deceased appeared to have been sad as a result of his continuous gambling losses. He urged young people to stop the behaviour in order to avert similar incidents.
