Phionah Tusingwire, 4, and Patience Tarindeka, 5, both pupils at Apex Model primary school in Nakaseke district, were allegedly kidnapped by the suspect only known as Sande, who, had been contracted to take and pick them up from school using his boda boda, registration number, UFB 009B.
Savannah Regional police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima reported that the girls, who left home at 7 am on Friday did not return at the end of the school day.
Twiineamazima stated that the mother of the juveniles, Scovia Kayesu reported the incident to Kirangazi police station. According to police, after kidnapping the girls, Sande began demanding Shs 35 million ransom from their father.
The suspect reportedly used the phone numbers; 0787479887 and 0785829760 to call the parents. With the help of police tracking technology, the suspect was initially pinned to be in Kiboga district before moving to Kyankwanzi district.
Under pressure from the police tracking team and community members, the suspect decided to abandon the children near the Kabaale bridge, which separates Kyankwanzi and Nakaseke districts. The victims were found at this location on Saturday at around 11:20 am.
A medical examination conducted on the victims at Ngoma health centre IV revealed no evidence of sexual harassment. The motorcycle used in the kidnap was found a few meters away from where the victims were discovered. According to Twiineamazima, the children have been reunited with their families.
