ENTEBBE – The Uganda National Meteorological Authority predicts a dry spell which has been characterised by the persistent rainfall following the El Nino season
“The February rainfall viewpoint has shown that most parts of the county are likely to remain dry and sunny accompanied by blurred conditions” as viewed by the Met
“However, occasional rainfall is expected in areas of South-Western and around Lake Victoria basin.”
Unlike the month of January in which the country experienced substantial rains in the water basin areas, temperatures are expected to be warmer than average over most parts of the country in February.
In January, substantial rainfall was experienced in Kigezi, Lake Victoria basin and eastern parts of the country
According to the meteorological authority, the month of February is going to be generally characterised by dry and sunny weather conditions over most parts of the country associated with high day temperatures and higher than average temperatures are usually recorded in February.
Although the rainfall outlook for February indicates that dry, sunny, and hazy conditions will prevail over most of the country, areas around the south-western sub-region are likely to experience wetter conditions, while isolated areas around the central, Lake Victoria basin stretching to the Eastern region are expected to receive occasional rainfall.
Basing on the latest forecasts, government has advised the public to avoid bush burning to preserve ecosystems and also prepare their farm lands in anticipation of first seasonal rains in the coming months.
On the other side, motorists have been advised to drive with caution whenever foggy and hazy conditions prevail.
