Pop Star turned Pollitician, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, the leader of the leading Ugandan Government party, National Unity Platform (NUP), has shown interest to tussle it out with President Museveni once again in 2026.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Museveni will be running in the 2026 elections.
During an interview with CNN, Kyagulanyi emphasized the significance of a free and fair electoral process.
He reiterated his determination to bring about change in Uganda and expressed his unwavering commitment to challenging Museveni’s 38-year-long rule.
“My music opened my eyes and those of the masses, especially the youth, leading me into trouble. But it was good trouble. Music has always been my platform to communicate,” he stated.
Kyagulanyi explained that his music allowed him to connect with people and played a crucial role in his decision to enter politics.
“We will continue to challenge General Museveni through every available moral and constitutional means. By 2026, if we haven’t removed him from power, we will challenge him to a free and fair election,” he declared.
Despite acknowledging the risks associated with challenging a long-standing incumbent, Kyagulanyi said he remains resolute in his mission.
He said he is committed to opposing Museveni’s regime using moral and constitutional avenues and aims to gain international attention and support to help the people of Uganda assert their democratic rights.
Kyagulanyi’s ultimate goal is to bring about positive change and establish a more inclusive and transparent political landscape in Uganda.
The transition from a beloved musician to a political force has captivated the nation and attracted global interest.
Despite the obstacles he faces, Kyagulanyi noted that his unwavering determination and commitment to the cause continue to inspire many, particularly the youth who see him as a beacon of hope for a brighter future in Uganda.
