Police in Namusindwa district have arrested a 48-year-old pastor for allegedly hacking his 44-year-old wife to death.
The suspect has been identified as the pastor of Christ Church in Bukhabusi Sub-county in Namisindwa district and Malukhu Village, Butiru Parish, Same Sub-county.
According to the Daily Monitor, the suspect allegedly hacked his pregnant wife, Agnes Mandala, for allegedly involving himself in an extramarital affair with another man in the area.
The source stated that the neighbours and the police report revealed that the clergyman had, on several occasions, claimed the wife was cheating on him with another man.
Rogers Taitika, the police spokesperson for the Elgon region, noted that the deceased was hacked and his body dumped along the bank of the deep stream on Wednesday.
He stated that the two were married together and have been staying together and moving together.
The deceased was 22 weeks pregnant, according to the postmortem report released by the police.
The suspect was arrested at his home to aid in the investigation after a police canine unit was introduced at the crime scene, Taitika told the publication.
The police revealed that the suspect was found with the wife’s phone.
Taitika, however, advised couples to seek legal redress rather than resorting to violence.
He, however, revealed that there is an increase in domestic violence cases across the region, stating that in 2023, over 70 cases were registered.
