The chilling CCTV footage captured Benjamin Kiplagat’s desperate attempt to escape his assailants, ultimately leading to a fatal crash into a ditch.
Footage of the two men identified as prime suspects in the murder of Ugandan steeplechaser Benjamin Kiplagat was murdered has now been released to the public.
Kiplagat was murdered early Sunday morning at Texas near Kimumu area in Eldoret, leaving a lot of people shocked and puzzled, but the two men suspected to have killed him were arrested less than 48 hours later.
In the video, a black pick up that Kiplagat is driving is seen getting to a sharp bend and turning left before it crashes into a ditch, before a man wearing a suit and a cap follows behind and then uses a wall to peep and see if the vehicle stops.
He then appears to be calling a person over, before he is seen walking towards the vehicle. Moments later, a man in a red jacket is seen running towards the vehicle before he walks back.
However, the man in a suit (who is the one who may have committed the murder), takes quite some time before he is seen running and then walking away from the crime scene.
Moiben sub-county Police Commander Stephen Okal said one of the suspects was apprehended within Uasin Gishu while the other was arrested in the neighbouring Trans Nzoia County.
Okal said the police are interrogating the two and believe more people could have been involved in the gruesome murder.
