Katikara, Bugangaizi East, Kakumiro: With the discovery of Oil in Bunyoro Sub Region, Uganda entered a pact with United Republic of Tanzania to facilitate the construction of the pipeline from Kaiso-Tonya in Hoima to Mutukura in Tanzania to facilitate the transportation of Crude Oil from Uganda to Tanzania for refinery. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) will among other places transect through Katikara area but importantly, a camp of pipeline workers will be established there for a full year.
While visiting her people in the constituency ON Wednesday, Hon. Aisa Agaba Black, the Bugangaizi East Member of Parliament rallied residents of Katikara to equitably use this opportunity and make some money, develop themselves.
“Starting early next year, the government is establishing a camp of 5000 people in Kasambya, Katikara here. This is a camp people who will be constructing a pipeline from Hoima to Mutukula, this Camp will be here for one year therefore position yourselves to see that you get something out of this opportunity.” Hon. Aisa pleaded with the residents.

“Now that these people will need many services like feeding, healthcare, accommodation, casual laborers and other services, its an opportunity for you to exploit. Some of you who can offer casual labor by digging trenches and compounds of the camp, be ready, some who can make chapatti, those who can clean, those who can cook food, builders and others be on standby.” She added.
She revealed that as leaders, they engaged EACOP team and emphasized respect of local content which was agreed upon. “We agreed that while recruiting people to assist in their works, the first priority should be given to the people where the camp will be hosted and nearby areas so that they can benefit first.”
“We are proposing that the pipeline should have reached Mutukula boarder by 2025 therefore if you become vigilant and steady, you will have generated some good income.” She stated.
She also mentioned of the World Bank project that is coming to Mwitanzigye Sub County which will heavily impact the people their. Additionally, she highlighted that the year 2024 will see the launch of the first class Emergency Medical Response (EMS) Ambulance as a big boost to the healthcare of the people of Bugangaizi East Constituency.
She made these remarks while attending Home Church Service in Kitabona LCI, Katikara Sub County in Bugangaizi East Constituency hosted by Twinomuhangyi Peter.
