Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of the Ugandan parliament, has officially resumed her role just two weeks after giving birth. Her return to office on Monday, November 6, 2023, was met with a warm reception from some members of the legislature, marking the end of her absence, which lasted approximately a month and a half. She had taken a leave of absence to prepare for the birth of her twins, who were born a few weeks ago.
The news of Among’s delivery of twins was first announced by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who was serving as the acting Speaker of Parliament at the time. This announcement clarified the reason for her unexpected leave to the nation.
Upon her return, Speaker Anita Among expressed her gratitude to Thomas Tayebwa for filling in during her absence and extended her thanks to everyone who had prayed for her and showed their support upon hearing the news of her successful delivery.
“Today, I am thrilled to be back on official duties after a heartwarming welcome from my colleagues and the staff of the August House. I had been away on leave, during which we were blessed with lovely twins. I sincerely appreciate all your prayers and the outpouring of love. I am also grateful to my dear brother, Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa, for his capable and steadfast leadership during my absence,” Among shared on X.
It’s worth noting that Among’s twins are the children of Moses Magogo, the legislator for Budjope East and the president of the FUFA. Anita Among and Moses Magogo tied the knot in August 2022.
