The Ugandan police have officially handed over the bodies of two foreign tourists who were tragically killed in Kasese to a team of forensic and investigative experts from the United Kingdom on November 1, 2023. The joint task force investigating the heinous murder shared their findings with the UK team, which included critical timelines of events, GPS data, phone evidence, and other significant leads. Along with these findings, a comprehensive autopsy report was also provided.
The victims’ families and loved ones have been enduring a painful and anxious wait for closure, and the authorities expressed their continued sympathy and support for the bereaved. “Our hearts and thoughts continue to be with their families and loved ones,” said SCP Enanga Fred, the Police Spokesperson.
The tragic incident, which shocked both the local and international communities, prompted immediate action to enhance the safety and security of visitors to all tourist sites across Uganda. Authorities have been working diligently to improve the measures in place to protect tourists and ensure such an incident is never repeated. Efforts are underway to recover important exhibits linked to the incident, which were found in the possession of a commander from the ADF rebel group, who has been confirmed as responsible for the attack on the tourists and their driver. The commander was apprehended by the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), the Marines, and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
“We promised that the truth behind these cowardly attacks would come out and the perpetrators brought to justice or put out of action, in case they fail to surrender,” SCP Enanga Fred stated, reiterating the commitment of the Ugandan authorities to resolving the case. He went on to commend the UPDF for their relentless pursuit of ADF remnants near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and their contributions to the overall peace and stability of the country.
The investigation into this tragic event continues, and the collaboration with UK experts signifies a significant step towards unveiling the full details of the incident and ensuring justice is served.
According to Police, the Ugandan government remains committed to maintaining the safety of visitors and residents alike, assuring that the nation’s tourist sites are secure and welcoming to all.
