GULU: The Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Cosmas James Okidi ,has warned members of the public in Gulu district about getting involved in some criminal activities and urged them to expose criminal elements in the society.
While appearing in one of radio talk show in Gulu on Tuesday, Okidi warned members of the public about getting involved in some common crimes such as gender based violence(GBV) which results into quarrels and fight among family members.
He said the main cause of GBV is alcoholism and frustration from some family heads who end up selling harvested crops from the garden and even from home for unspecified reasons, making women to remain in dilemma while feeding the children.
Okidi added that people should be vigilant enough and security conscious by reporting any strange person spotted as a visitors with suspected ill intentions in their be respective areas.
He asked members of the public to report such elements to vigilante group recently set up in Gulu district or report directly to the LCs,GISO ,DISO and RDC’s office so that such characters are investigated, apprehended and dealt with by police and other security agencies as far as the rule of law is concerned.
Okidi who echoed that road Accident,land disputes, GBV and petty theft continues to persist dispite of several warnings and interventions being undertaken by RDC’s Office to curtail rampant cases in Gulu,they shall arrest all criminal elements and goons disturbing the peace of nthe people in Gulu district.
Among others interventions initiated by RDC Okidi James/RDC’s office in Gulu include; mediation, Sensitisation, dialogues, reconciliation and arrest of perpetrators of crime as mandated in their line of duty.
Okidi told listeners that ,PDM disbursement which are indeed fairly well in Gulu ,stands at 67%(percent)as of 31st,October 2023,progressing steadily.
He emphasized that they want the PDM disbursement status to be at 100 percent.
The RDC disclosed that members of the public should benefit from other government projects such as Emyooga ,YLP, UWEP among others.
Okidi noted that whoever will be caught abusing the use of PDM money or embazzling PDM fund in Gulu district,must prepare to go to jail.
