At Four Points Hotel in Kololo- Kampala Youth leadership under their umbrella Multiparty Youth Forum (MYF) convened to come up with how youths will effectively involve in the forthcoming 2026 elections after the Electoral Commission releasing the road map.
After receiving the Authority Kirya disclosed that his party (DP) being the party of Democracy his going to copy the same Culture into MYF such that youths leaders know the importance of Democracy which they will use to create pratfform of peaceful transition of power in Uganda.
“It’s good and nice to lead the Forum that has political party leaders who have Members of parliament in thier respective parties because they can easily pressurize those MPs to take the issues of youths to parliament floor to be solved ” says Kirya.
Meanwhile in the same meaning Jacob Eyeru the outgoing Chairman of Multiparty Youth Forum (MYF) asked government to increase the number of Youths representatives number to 10 from the current 5.
while addressing journalists in kampala Eyeru said that youths are the majority in the country making almost 75% of the population but only represented by 5 members of parliament which he says is not fair compared to 10 MPs representing the UPDF which doesn’t even have the population of over 60,000 solders.
Eyeru adds that atleast each region namely Eastern, western, Northern and central must have 2 Mps Woman and Man for gender sensitivity where by both can’t fail to table on floor the issues affecting youths.
He has disclosed that even the amount of money charged for one youth to contest on Youth MP region representative seat is high and must be revised or removed because those youth move long distances looking for votes in the entire region and require funds.
Eyeru also challenged to desist from political fights and join hands to create a peaceful ground of politics of the country.
“Politics of Uganda seems to be on wrong truck so it’s a mandate of youth to bring it back where it belong but it will not happen when you are fighting to each other due to your political affiliation” Eyeru revealed.
Eyeru says youths must be more serious if they want to change the agenda of politics in Uganda.
He has disclosed that Electoral Commission has already released the 2026 general elections road map so youth must come up to point out on all road blocks such that they fully participate in elections without any hinderency.
Christine Mugerwa the Deputy Secretary General (DSG) of Democratic party (DP) has advised youths to embrace more youths leadership position to get experience in leadership as well as political managements.
