KOLE: Police in North Kyoga Region had issued a statement regarding the death of a 40- years-old man in Kole district Lango sub-region,who was killed by cutting.
The territorial police in Kole district are holding one Ojok Denis on allegations of cutting and killing his nephew identified as Ojok Tobby a 40-years-old to death from Abim village, Ayaraya parish, Alito Sub-County in Kole District.
According to the police PRO North Kyoga Region SP Jimmy Patrick Okema,this incident happened on the 23rd October ,2023 at around 19:00 hours and the report was registered at police by one Ekwalo Charles aged 42-years-old from the same area.
It is alleged that on the 23rd day of October 2023 at around 19:00 hours ,the suspect emerged from a nearby cassava garden, found Tobby (deceased) at home seated on his veranda, cut and hit him badly on the head using an axe leading to his death instantly.
The suspect allegedly left the axe he used to kill Tobby at the scene and disappeared. The wife of the deceased returned home and found the husband alive but seriously bleeding. She made an alarm which attracted other people to the scene of crime.
Efforts to rescue his life with an ambulance was not possible since he had over bled.
Preliminary findings indicates that there was a land conflict between suspect and the deceased, to the extent that the suspect wanted the land which was given to the deceased.
However, the deceased has been possessing the said land legally since the clan divided it and each beneficiary was given his/her portion.
Police in North Kyoga including the scene of crime Officer (SOCO)have visited the scene of crime examined and documented together with other team of detectives from homicide squad.
The exhibit of an axe which was allegedly used by the suspect to cut the deceased has also been recovered and exhibited.
According to the police statements issued by Okema, statement were recorded from the relevant witnesses.
The deceased’s body was conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital pending Post-moterm.
Meanwhile,the suspect later handed over himself to the police in Alito police station where investigation is going on.
This is a very unfortunate incident, police therefore appealed to clan leaders to always try and resolved issues affecting the community in their respective clans amicably more so especially members within their locality or seek assistance from other authority for legal advice.
