Today, the Consulate General of the Republic of Uganda in Guangzhou organised a Promote Uganda Origin Event held at Meta Incubator – Wisdom Valley, an Industrial technological innovation hub in Panyu District, Guangzhou to celebrate Uganda’s 61st Independence Anniversary and a special afternoon session with particular focus on promoting Ugandan coffee among Chinese consumers.
The event was attended by the Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office together with the Director and Deputy Directors for African Division, Officials from the Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, Consular Generals from 30 Consulates and other members of the Diplomatic Corps, and a cross-section of Chinese business executives from sectors strategic to Uganda.
During the event, statements were made by Amb. Judyth Nsababera, Consul General, Ms Qian Hongjie, Deputy Director-General from the Foreign Affairs Office, Guangdong Province, and a presentation by Dr. Emmanuel Iyamulemye, Managing Director – Uganda Coffee Development Authority during the special session in the afternoon aimed at promoting Ugandan coffee.

The guests were treated to Uganda Coffee at the newly opened Elgon Café and also had a Metaverse experience about Uganda.
In her remarks, the Consul General highlighted promotion of economic and commercial cooperation between Uganda and China as the central objective of the Consulate’s work which involves among others; Attraction of Foreign Direct Investment in Uganda’s strategic sectors; increasing the number of out-bound Chinese tourists to Uganda; and increasing productivity and expanding Uganda’s export base to the Chinese market for its agricultural produce especially Ugandan Coffee”.

She also expressed the Consulate’s commitment to provide all the necessary support to enterprises wishing to travel to Uganda to further explore existing opportunities, and re-affirmed the strengthening of the bilateral ties between the Republic of Uganda and the Peoples’ Republic of China.
To this regard she informed the guests that the Consulate will soon commence construction of a permanent home in Guangzhou – both Chancery and Official Residence and that the Ugandan National Courier – Uganda Airlines is in the final stages of commencing direct flights between Entebbe and Guangzhou which will facilitate easy movement of both people and goods between the two countries.
