OBONGI: The Obongi district chairperson who doubles as the district NRM chairperson, has attacked the NRM government for neglecting Obongi district by refusing to connect it to the national grid and refusing to give the district a hospital.
Speaking at the 61st belated independence anniversary celebrations for Obongi district that was celebrated at Alingajobi PS playground in Aliba subcounty, Mr Abib Buga Khemis rushed out at government for refusing to connect electricity to the district yet power is only about 10 Kilometres away from the neighbouring Yumbe district.
The Obongi district boss,Abib Buga Khemis said this is dangerous come 2026 because the electorates who really overwhelmingly voted NRM has been marginalised by not being given proper servics like electricity,hospital and tarmacked roads among others.
In response made by the Obongi Resident District Commissioner ,Samuel Mpimbasa Hashaka,he pledged that the NRM government is committed to continue developing the distrct just like in the area of water where the water coverage has increased from 2% to over 60% and will really increase to over 90% in six months time.
Hasaka added that there will be increase in the number of health centres and schools in the district and this should not cause an alarm.
On the issue of electricity the RDC promised to remind government about the matter and proposed that the top distrct leadership will meet the minister of energy on the issue.
Obongi district is among two districts not connected to electricity according to the NRM chairman.
Several people turned up for the celebration with demand to the government of Uganda to listen to their concern and problems.
