KASESE DISTRICT: Suspected Allied democratic force rebels last night ambushed and burnt a lorry in Kasese leaving two business persons dead and one injured.
This is the third attack of Suspected ADF rebels to the people and properties of Kasese in a period of less than four month where on 16th June 2023 suspected ADF attacked Mpondwe Community Secondary School in Mpondwe Lhuburiha town council and left 41 dead among 38 were students.
The second attack was on 6th October 2023 Uganda Peoples Defense Forces engaged in a firefight with these suspected ADF rebels who were attempting to cross into Uganda seeking for medical supplies from Health Centers located in Mpondwe Lhuburiha town Council.
Lieutenant, Joe Walusimbi, the Kasese Resident District Commissioner while addressing press on October 13, 2023 said that on Thursday night between 23:00 and 00:00 in Katholhu Village in Nyakiyumbu Sub County Kasese District, a group of unidentified suspected ADF rebels fired bullets and later burnt a lorry which was carrying onions heading to Bwera Town along Bwera-Kasese Road where the driver died on spot, a woman burnt beyond recognition.
One person survived with arm injuries caused by a gunshot while another one survived with no injuries.
Lieutenant Walusimbi revealed that unmerciful rebels are being hunted by UPDF operatives with a call on public to provide relevant security information to leaders and security organs.
Mr. Sunday Peter Kakule, Nyakiyumbu Local Council Three Chairperson while at the scene regretted the act and warned the public against hiding and collaborating with the ADF rebels. He added it put their lives at risk of being arrested or even be killed by ADF rebels.
Similarly, Mr. Abel Liminya, the Ihandiro Local Council Three Chairperson challenged the residents at the DR. Cong-Uganda Boarder to always report in their homes early. Liminya further cautioned bar owners to close businesses early revealing that his sub county will start an operation of arresting those who will not adhere to the directive.
In regard to intensify vigilance , Hon. Karabyo Amos, the district councilor for Nyakiyumbu Sub County identified a need for security meetings in all villages of Kasese in order to plans for the increasing cases of ADF attacks.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mosese Tsutsu, Local Council Three Chairperson for Isango Sub County revealed that Five Suspected Armed ADF rebels were identified in Isango Village and were subsequently pursued.
By Press time the body of the deceased and injured were at Bwera Hospital
