LIRA: Kitgum district,in East Acholi, Northern Uganda,will host the 61 independence Day celebration this year where the guest of honour will be none other than H.E General Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, the president of the Republic of Uganda.
The theme for this year celebration is “sustaining a united and progressive nation: Taking charge of our future as a free nation”.
In Lango sub-region,North Kyoga police are more than ready to secure a peaceful independence celebrations.
ln a press statement for Independence Day (Uhuru) Celebration in North Kyoga Region issued by Jimmy Patrick Okema on Friday to the media practitioners in North Kyoga Region,the PRO-North Kyoga Region Okema, message was dominated by the message of peace and unity.
“As we are all aware, Uganda yearly celebrate Independence on the 9th Oct and North Kyoga region is not exceptional, we therefore wish to remind members of the public that this event come with lots of excitement, party after party, increased mobility all over the region, businesses booming up, vendors traveling to market days”noted Okema.
Now as members of the community are trying to make ends meet, the criminals also engaged in many criminal activities such as Robbery, House breaking and theft, Defilement cases, Phone snatching by street goons, Rape cases, Shop breaking, circulation of fake currencies, Motorcycle thefts, Domestic violence, Accident cases above all Threats of terrorism is still real.
“As police we want to give an assurance and build confidence to the community members that we are prepared to secure peaceful Independence Celebration before, during and after.
We have strengthened our covert and overt capabilities through motorized and foot patrol, joint intelligent operations as part of our readiness to secure this period, CCTV cameras command and call centers are active 24/7 to monitor all corners of Lira-City, Highways and other urban centers where cameras are installed.
We urged members of the public for timely reporting, being vigilant and practice neighborhood watch.”He added

Uganda gained her independence in the year 1962.
