Police in Buikwe district have arrested a 35-year-old woman on suspicion of falsely claiming to have given birth. The suspect, who is married to Moses Kibirango from Bogwe landing site in Si sub-county, allegedly borrowed a baby from a friend in Kiqusa village, Kayunga district.
However, local community members grew suspicious when they visited to see the purportedly newborn child. They observed the infant appeared to be around 3 months old, not the reported age of 3 days.
Solomon Owani, LC1 chairman for the area, said the woman eventually confessed under questioning. She admitted borrowing the baby in an attempt to conceal her separation from her husband and save her marriage, according to Owani.
He further stated the suspect had previously left Kibirango, informing him she was nearing birth. When residents confronted her about the child’s actual age, she disclosed the plan to pass off the borrowed infant as her own.
The woman remains in police custody as investigations continue into the deceitful incident. Authorities are working to verify the full circumstances surrounding the false claim of childbirth.
