OBONGI: Members of Yakinemiji fish and construction project under DRDIP in Obongi town council Obongi district have decided to go on hunger strike and peaceful demonstration because of a ghost fish pond project.
The demonstrators who stormed the Resident District Commissioner(RDC)office’s, are accusing and suspecting police in Obongi for being compromised by those who embezzled over 37 million shillings meant for the fish pond project.
According to available records 37,800,000/= was paid to one of the university in February this year.
Over six months later, the fish pond has ended up as a ghost project .
About two months ago police in Obongi opened a file on the Yakinemiji ghost fish pond project, recorded statements from the intended beneficiaries and got exhibits of evidence of payment but police has to date not taken any action on the matter.
While meeting the frustrated demonstrators at the Obongi RDC’s office,on Thursday,September,2023, the Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbasa Hasaka expressed his disappointment and frustration of corruption cases by some police officers in Obongi district and promised to take action about the scandals and report them to IGP Marthin Okoth Ochola.
He hss called upon State House Anti Corrupttion Unit to open through investigation on such police officers whom he withheld their names for fear of juperdising the investigation which he believes will commence soon.
He urged the government to terminate any police officer implicated in the saga.
