On September 27, 2023, the Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat (STI) unveiled the highly anticipated 3rd edition of the National Science Week, scheduled to commence from November 6th to the 11th, 2023, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Uganda is gearing up to honor and celebrate the country’s achievements in the domains of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, the Minister for Science, Technology & Innovation, addressed the audience during the launch of the National Science Week 2023. She emphasized the Secretariat’s strategic commitment to eight (8) core thematic areas propelling a Science-led economic transformation. These encompass Pathogen Economy, Mobility, Industry 4.0+, Export-Targeted STI, Import Substitution, Infrastructure Innovation, Productivity Acceleration, and Aeronautics & Space. These thematic areas signify the Secretariat’s dedication, serving as the foundation for the upcoming National Science Week 2023. They also set the stage for Uganda’s transition from the brink of innovation to the realization of transformative innovative solutions, poised to reshape the nation’s economic landscape, particularly in response to Uganda’s youthful demographics.

The 6-day National Science Week will encompass various activities. Day one will be the Press day, celebrating the fourth Estate with enlightening panel discussions focusing on domestic innovations in journalism and media. Day two will be the Official opening ceremony, officiated by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Guest of Honor. Day 3 will be the Academia day, encouraging academic institutions across the country to bring their students and get inspired on the path to developing scientific innovations. Day four will be the Policy and Synergy day, involving senior leaders from Parliament, Cabinet, government parastatals, private organizations, and legislators to engage on legislation, policy, and synergy for science-led growth. Day five will be the Investors Engagement Day, featuring discussions with investors focused on aligning Uganda as the prime investment destination, especially in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The last day of the National Science Week 2023, day six, is dedicated to families, allowing them to explore Uganda’s innovations, officiated by Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda.
