Police in Sheema district have revealed that they are hunting down a yet-to-be-identified 22-year-old man who killed an Arsenal fan following a disagreement after the Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester United.
According to Police, the victim has been identified as Jackson Aineruhanga and is a resident of Rwanyinakahire cell, Rwamujojo ward, Sheema Central Division, Sheema Municipality, in Sheema District.
The Bushenyi police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, said that both men developed a disagreement while watching the match between Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
Tumusiime said that the disagreement started when Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho’s goal was ruled offside by the video assistant referee (VAR) in the later minutes of the game.
“The two went to one of the bars but were ejected because they were quarreling. The suspect thereafter ran after the victim and stabbed him in the chest with a sharp object,” he said.
The website has since learnt that the suspect is on the run and that police have visited the crime scene, where another piece of wood was recovered with blood stains.
According to the 2022 Police Crime Report, the number of crimes committed in the country increased dramatically in 2022 when compared to the previous year.
The report indicated that the number of offences grew by more than 18% in one year compared to the previous one.
“A total of 231,653 cases were reported in 2022, up from 1960–81 in 2021. Thefts increased by 41% to 61508 from 43583 in 2021, while assaults increased by 9% from 29317 to 32041,” the report revealed.
Domestic violence instances grew by 1% to 17698 from 17533 reported in 2021, while breakings increased by 36% to 13826 from 10,148 the previous year, according to the data.
