Game ove for homosexuals in Uganda, Anti Homosexuality Bill finally tabled

PARLIAMENT: Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, the Justice Forum (JEEMA) president and MP for Bugiri Municipality today tabled the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 for the first reading in parliament.

At first this bill was rejected due to an issue of quorum but of recent we heard Speaker Among asking legislators to be in support of it.

Upon his submission, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, thereafter referred the Bill to the Committee of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and directed to ensure there is a sufficient public hearing of the Bill.

Among informed the House that the Ministry of Finance issued the Certificate of Financial Implication (CFI) for the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

She has encouraged the Members not to get intimidated over their respective position on the proposed.

She said MPs will be called on the floor of parliament to vote on the matter.

“We don’t want the technicalities of saying there was no quorum. This is the time you are going to show whether you are homo or not,” she said.

Adding: “And this business of intimidating people that you will not go to America, what is in America?” she wondered, and asked MPs not to be intimidated.
