Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s leading private newspaper Monitor- a subsidiary of Nation Media Group has bowed to pressure and apologized to Hon. Mathias Mpuuga- Uganda’s Leader of Opposition in Parliament over a story they accepted, was not true.
On 15th February, 2023, Monitor published a story indicating that Hon. Mpuuga entered into a deal with Uganda’s government officials in a bid to release Honorables Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana.
This was followed by Hon. Mpuuga threatenning to sue the paper for promoting false information on him so he would want them to be charged of defamation.
However, quickly they saw this information, Monitor apologised and Hon. Mpuuga honored.
In his tweet, Hon. Mpuuga said,
“Gunsinze aliwa bitono…” so we say in Buddu. Thank you
for acknowledging & owning up your mistake. Apology taken. #AccountabilityAndService
