Rwenzori Sub Region: Police in Rwenzori West has cautioned the public against displaying fireworks without approval from Police.
As a norm world wide every December 31st, people celebrate with activities such as night prayers and the display of fireworks at events and concerts.
However, while addressing journalists on Friday, ASP Norman Musinga, the Rwenzori West Regional Police Commander said the office of the Inspector General of Police has only approved 24 places to display fireworks on the New year and thus warned those that haven’t got the approval to desist from carrying out any display.
Musinga said that the approved places have been given guidelines to follow which will ensure safety during the display of the fireworks. He also urged the public to desist from burning tyres as a way of celebrating and said that whoever does it will be arrested and prosecuted.
The RPC also cautioned the general public to mind about their security while celebrating the New year. He says that people should not leave their homes, shops unattended to because this will give chance to wrong elements to break into homes and steal property.
He added that Police will continue with patrols and operations to ensure that guidelines are put in place.
