Kumi, Uganda: Yesterday in noon hours, a yet to be identified explosive that the children were playing with went off in the Kanapa village, resulting in the deaths of two children. The village of Kanapa is in the Kumi district.
Patricia Egolet and Diana Marcy Achan, both 4 years old, have been identified as the two children killed in the explosion. In the incident, their 7-year-old brother Brian Epaja also sustained serious injuries. Kumi Hospital is treating Epaja, the surviving child.
The unidentified explosive was reportedly taken by children from the residence of their neighbor and retired UPDF soldier Francis Okaje.
The kids had been sent for an assignment to Okaje’s home by their mom Betty Adong.
Ahamada Wasyaki, Kumi Resident Commissioner, confirmed the incident.
