Kololo, Uganda: Uganda Medical Association (UMA) newly elected president vows to re-Unity members who had fall apart such that they came together to serve all Ugandans irrespective of thier political party affiliation, religion and tribe.
Dr. Oledo is accused of using the association for his personal political gains to express his support for Mr Museveni who has been in power since 1986 and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party which UMA members said compromises the association’s values.
Yesterday Sunday 18th an Extraordinary General Meeting convinced and voted to suspend Dr. Oledo as a member of Uganda Medical Association for 4 years and also voted the Vice President Dr. Edith Nakku-Joloba as the new President.
While addressing journalists at Kololo today, Dr. Edith Nakku -Joloba the new U.M.A president said that ‘Members from an extraordinary meeting asked me to take this role which am grateful to take up and my first step is to bring UMA together because they have been injured and need healing’.
‘UMA need to be aligned again to it’s objectives, so anyone diverting from them is an enemy and she/he must be worked upon immediately’.
Meanwhile UMA secretary General Dr Herbert Luswata says the move they have made is going to be as an example to all members of UMA that their association is not partizan and is here to save live not politics.
Dr. Samwel Oledo was voted into office last year 2021 in November meaning he has served for one year and 16 days in office, were Dr Edith Nakku is going to start from until November 2023 when the next elections will take place.
