Kampala, Uganda: After registering the Association in books of government last month , the Association has now embarked on massive registration of all willing traders and growers of Animals Feeds such that they get one voice to decide on some matters that affect the industry.
UAFMA General secretary David Waligo during stakeholders meeting held at Nakivubo bule primary said that currently Animal feeds dealers face a challenge of imported feeds such as concentrate and it has kicked out many in the industry so they want to get thier own polytechnic institute such that Ugandan famers get skills and knowledge to make feeds with quality and quantity needed on both local and international market.
Waligo adds that the institute Will provide students with a basic training in animal nutrition, application of feed ingredients and concentrates for animals and aquaculture species hence stop of allegations that Uganda feeds are of poor quality.
“We want to come out with commodity exchange system of Animal feeds to streamline prices because everyone has his/her prices when it comes to Agriculture products which has heavily affected farmers” says Waligo.
Meanwhile Aimable Mbarushimana, the operations director for Murwana J.Peter Stores Limited which deals in manufacturing of local Feeds has disclosed that Ugandan have the capacity to produce all local Animals Feeds but due to lack of knowledge and skills to make them , traders and growers have instead embraced imported feeds so this must end.
However the Principal Range ecologist under the Department of Animal and nutrition in the ministry of Agriculture Denis Mulongo Maholo who officated the meeting said already there existing schools of Agriculture in the country but it will also support the set up of polytechnic institute of Animals Feeds for development of local Animal Feeds in the country.
“consider quality when making local Feeds your products to compete on the market” Maholo urged the Association.
