Kampala, Uganda: Older persons in Uganda under their Umbrella Body Abantu Abakulu Mu Uganda Abafaayo (AAMA) want president Museveni be given more 5 years of office then Region Rotation system governence.
Chairman AAMA Webster Lukwiya say president Museveni although is old but he can still rule for more 5 years if given chance his name to appear on the ballot paper of the 2025/26 presidential elections and during this period negotiations for region rotational governance system will start.
He says rotational governance is not new in Africa because currently Nigeria, Switzerland ,Tanzanian and some European countries are practicing it and has created peace in those countries so wish be in Uganda to stop blood shade after president Museveni rule.
“When rotational governance system is embraced the top 4 leadership positions namely President, Deputy resident, Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament will be shared by each region every term such as Eastern, western, central Northern and West Nille i.e if the president is from Eastern, his vice will be in southern , prime minister in Northern then speaker of Parliament from western'” chairman revealed.
“We are accordingly planned to carry out a series of activities, to carry out constitution meetings with stakeholders on the desired referendum, holding regional sensitization public hearings-cum-signature collection from about 1.2 million Ugandans intended for petitioning the chairman Electoral Commission (EC) for a referendum in 2025” Lukwiya adds.
They have also appealed to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to turn down his ambition for presidency for 2026 to give Ugandans chance to think on rotational governance.
