The Ministry of Agriculture has today donated 140 bags of Irish potato seeds to Gitundwe reformed farmers in Kisoro District. The Irish potato seeds were received yesterday at the district local government headquarters by Muja Judith, the district environment officer.
Muja Judith said that Irish potato seeds will benefit Gitundwe reformed farmers who were evicted from Gitundwe wetland so that they can have alternative income-generating enterprises. She revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries supplied the Irish potato seeds through the Green Climate Fund Project presidential initiative.
Asked about the fate of other residents who were evicted from wetlands, Muja Judith said that they will support them because the Green Climate Fund Project presidential initiative which started in 2017 is still on up to 2025.
Kisoro district senior Agriculture officer, Nyiramutuzo Harriet said that the donated Irish potato seeds are of Rwangumi type and of good quality
