Makerere University: Rubaga-based Robert Kayanja Ministries led by Pastors Robert and Jessica Kayanja has today graced Makerere University staff fraternity in a spiritual moment to thank God for 100 years journey in an event that was convened at the University’s mighty Freedom Square.
Friday 7th, October 2022 was dedicated to University’s Academic, Administrative and Support staff to celebrate God’s goodness as they continue to serve Makerere University.
Robert Kayanja Ministries blessed the event with songs of praise and worship thanking the Almighty for the great milestone reached at by the University.
During his summon Pr. Kayanja centered on the value Makerere University has attached not only to human capital development but also Uganda’s economic development.
He implored students, workforce, and any person attached to the mighty institution to focus with faith, commitment and in prayer regardless of their current situation and position as they will have a remarkable story one day.
“In the bible, a little boy called Joseph was sold to slavery, thrown in prison, used to do all sorts of work but never lost focus, kept his faith in God Almighty and his story was different at last, he ended up holding bigger positions in Pharaoh’s Palace, the King of Egypt at the time”. Pr. Kayanja quoted.
He added that Joseph not only became a leader in the Kingdom of Egypt but also controlled their land, food and finances so this should encourage everyone who has been enabled by the Grace of God to witness this landmark celebration.
He prophesied a year of great transformation and prayed that Makerere University lives to see another century it has started today.
In her rejoinder, Pr. Jessica Kayanja stated that reaching 100 years is not one’s might or luck but a blessing from the Almighty.
She quoted the scripture in the book of Isaiah 65:20 where Jesus talked about the New Jerusalem; “if it does not live up to 100 years may be there is a curse”.
“Therefore, I wish to acknowledge that Makerere University has lived to see the biblical prophecy come true, very blessed above limits”. Pr. Jessica stated.
She also gave an example of the biblical father of faith, Abraham who had lived many years childless but at 100, was blessed with a son who became a promise and a blessing to the entire land of Israel.
“Makerere University has seen remarkable achievements and today we are gathered here to bless the Almighty for having enabled us reach this opportune time.
Prof. Ezra Suruma the Chancellor of Makerere University who was the Chief Guest at the special day of prayers opened his speech with St. Paul’s statement; “There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit”.
“The eye can’t say that I don’t need an ear, the head can’t say that I don’t need a chest, the hand can’t say that I don’t need a body, they all have to collaborate in order to have one body that is functional”. He quoted.
“So, as we are blessed with this prayer session by Robert Kayanja Ministries, it is important for all members of staff to understand the importance of everyone in executing their endeavors diligently at Makerere University”. He added.
He narrated a story of how he got to Makerere University in 1973 as a lecturer of economics at a time when Uganda was under tyrannical leadership of Idi Amin Dada, little did he know that he would rise to the position he holds now but says, he had hope with faith.
It is against this background that he implored members of staff to have hope even in tough times as it will see them through.
He packaged members of staff with a message of wishing them work of faith, hope and love.
Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe’s statement did not differ from other speakers, he acknowledged that the power the holy spirit can not be under estimated with belief that as the University enters another 100 years journey, God will be at the helm of everything.
Mr. Nawangwe revealed that having studied from former Soviet Union, now Russia, was indoctrinated into Scientific Communism that believed that God was a myth, little did he know that the latter factor caused its collapse thereby giving birth to Christianity in the land.
“It is therefore important that we have activities that are honoring God. I want to thank Pr. Robert Kayanja for his selfless love to cater for our spiritual souls as we start another journey of 100 years today”. Prof. Nawangwe stated.
