Association Chairman, Dr. Dan Tindiwensi asked Uganda National Bureau of Standards to set qualities that must be satisfied for a product to be suitable for sale in the supermarket.
“There is need for the body to publicly clarify which quality and type of goods conform or do not to supermarket setting”. Said Dr. Dan.
He said that however UNBS emphasizes quality of products, there are many products say pop corns on market with no legal affirmation and this lowers the pedigree of the supermarket.
Dr. Tindiwensi made these remarks during the 1st Annual General Meeting of Uganda Supermarket Owners Association (USOA) at Hotel Africana on Friday.
The Association that has over 49 fully registered members seeks to ensure good quality standard of goods, consumer and business protection, meeting place for owners in Uganda and voice for its members in the business world.
It further aims at creating a link between government, private sector and consumers, capacity building of its members and others.Members of the association confided that this is a big bullet towards improving their business, engaging Uganda Revenue Authority on favorable taxes that will leave their businesses standing.
Over 200 supermarkets were invited to subscribe to the association that will bring about collective force for flourishing of the supermarket business.
Notable supermarkets like Quickpick, Sankara, Geepas, Fraine, Kyaggwe, Jazz, Quality and others were represented.
